The Gem in the Team Part 1

We have gone through 10 games for the season and there has been no doubt at least an outstanding performer in each team. Let's review the most important player for each team at this moment of time.

Arsenal: Petr Mertesacker

The backline of Arsenal has been ever changing this season mainly due to injuries except for one Mertesacker. Widely ridiculed for some poor performances and high profile mistakes since he signed, he has been greatly improved and is the main reason for Arsenal's defensive solidity at the start of the season. With his team mates in such poor form, Mertesacker will have to be at his best for Arsenal to continue their title push.

Aston Villa: Ron Vlaar

For a new acquisition to straight away become the captain is quite an accomplishment and Vlaar has shown just why he has the armband. His leadership skills have guided the young Aston Villa team to steadily improving results and performances. His defensive powers have also brought a consistency to the team and they no longer look in threat of conceding everytime they lose the ball.

Chelsea: Juan Mata

The oohing and aahing has been over the two new exciting recruits Eden Hazard and Oscar but it has been Mata who has been pulling the strings for the team's attacks. With 4 goals and 6 assists as well as the most recent Player of the Month award, Mata has ensured that the transition phase for Chelsea is not half as bumpy as it was predicted to be. His goal tally is not the only thing making him such an important player, it is also the way he plays, which is a beautiful attacking game as the owner Roman Abramovic wants.

Everton: Marouane Fellaini

A player that I have talked about yesterday and one I really admire. But what makes Fellaini so valuable to his team is that he fits so well into the hole left behind by Tim Cahill. The job of scoring goals as the most advanced midfielder has been accomplished, with him averaging more than a goal every two games this season. Not just that, he has brought the role to a new level with his good hold up play, yielding 3 assists, including the sublime flick through O Shea's league to Jelavic last week. His excellent partnership with Jelavic has gone a long way to making the usually goal shy Everton into a powerhouse.

Fulham: John Arne Riise

It was hard not to plump for Berbatov but I think Riise is Fulham's true most important player. In the Everton game where Riise was constantly pushed back by Mirallas and Coleman, Fulham totally lose their attacking shape , such is their reliance on their left back. With their wingers looking to stay narrow, Fulham greatly relies on Riise for width. He is also a reliable defender as he is quick to get back to position and does not committ unnecessary mistakes.

Liverpool: Luis Suarez

I must say I do not like him as a person or a player. That is not to say though, that I do not admire his talent. Even his worst critics have to admit that he has skill and he showed just that with a cool dribble past Tim Krul to grab a point against Newcastle. What makes him so vital to his team is because he seems to be the only player there able to score consistently. He has not looked back since his hatrick against Norwich and Liverpool will nees him to continue his sparkling form to have a shot at Europe.
